A Reliable Healthcare System
Puerto Rico has a total of 63 hospitals managed by private and public sectors with nearly 12,000 authorized beds, according to the Puerto Rico Hospital Association. The largest concentration of hospitals is in the San Juan metropolitan region, the Ponce region and the Mayagüez metropolitan region. The San Juan metropolitan region has a total of 26 total hospitals distributed in 10 public hospitals and 16 private ones with a total of 4,900 authorized beds.
In the Ponce region, hospital distribution is: 1 public hospital and 9 hospitals managed by the private sector. This region has a total of 1,797 authorized beds. The Mayagüez region, which includes Aguadilla, has over 1,480 authorized beds distributed in 10 private hospitals.
