| With 30 years of pharmaceutical
manufacturing, an extensive supplier database, and 16 out of the
top 20 best selling pharmaceuticals in the U.S. produced in Puerto
Rico, it is easy to understand why this is one of the largest industrial
sectors on the Island. It has also seen significant growth in recent
years with outbound shipments of pharmaceutical products reaching
the $28.6 billion mark in FY 2001. Helping to fuel this growth is
a quality conscious, highly educated and largely bilingual workforce.
The Pharmaceutical Industry Association of Puerto Rico (PIA) is
the organization that gathers and represents research-based multinational
companies with operations in Puerto Rico and is a major contributor
to the pharmaceutical cluster. PRIDCO's Office of Science and Technology
and INDUNIV promotes the industry and the cluster as well as provide
special financial incentives to qualifying projects.
