This office assists Puerto Rican
companies to identify markets for their products. Its Local Market
Division identifies and evaluates markets for products manufactured
on the island by Puerto Rican industry. It provides technical and
general assistance to develop and market products.
The Division of Government Sales counsels on Bill 42 of 1989, also
known as Preferential Policy Related to Government Purchases Bill.
This law provides for local manufacturers to have preferential treatment
over foreign bidders in local auctions in both the municipal and
the state government. It orients industrials about procedures to
follow to be included in the list of government agency’s bidders.
In addition, it provides information about federal and state government
bids, as well as hotels and other institutions.
The Procurement and Technical Assistance Center (PTAC) offers technical
and marketing support to those businesses interested in selling
its products to the federal government. In this way, the PTAC helps
to increase local industry participation in the federal government
contracts. The PTAC offers general information to the industry about
the specifications of products, regulations and how to do business
with the federal government.
